The North Bay Employment Connection (NBEC)

The North Bay Employment Connection (NBEC) is a collaboration between the four Workforce Investment Boards of Sonoma, Solano, Napa/Lake, and Marin counties in the northern San Francisco Bay area of California.  As a collaborative, NBEC and its core partners are dedicated to:
  • Providing businesses and industries with access to a pool of skilled workers
  • Offering job seekers access to job opportunities and the related education, training and support needed for today’s careers
  • Making timely labor market information and workforce services available to encourage economic growth in our region

At any of our “One-Stop Centers” conveniently located in Sonoma, Solano, Napa/Lake and Marin Counties, you can “make the connection” by taking advantage of our many job-related services. These services provide complete coverage of the needs of job seekers and employers-and most are offered at no cost

NBEC serves as an institutional change agent as well, by accessing additional resources for the region and making smart investments. Over $12 million has been secured in competitive grants to enhance NBEC’s capacity to serve the employer and jobseeker communities.

Green Training

NBEC has been involved in green jobs training since October 2009. Marin County has administered the second round of funding: nearly $400,000 to provide training and certifications in the green economy.

This funding, coupled with a dollar-for-dollar match leveraged from public-private partnerships, promotes the use of industry sector strategies for training workers in occupations related to energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy (distributed generation and utility-scale), alternative and renewable transportation technologies and in supporting our large green business sector in the North Bay.

Over 100 participants have received services and training to help them in finding employment in the green economy. The program is now focused on job search assistance, support and retention through March 31, 2013.

Veterans Training

NBEC has focused on training veterans for many years. Solano County, in particular, receives dedicated grant funding to help support targeted training for veterans. In addition to referring veterans for training services to Solano County, all NBEC counties promote the training of veterans with their own training funding.

The special Vet Train Project in Solano County provides 85 military veterans with vocational classroom training in high growth, high demand occupations in the North Bay. One-half of these participants are recently-separated veterans. Occupations targeted for training include: psychiatric technicians; allied health occupations; fiber optics technicians; and computer/internet security technicians. Average placement wages are estimated to be $45,000 per year. The Project operates from April 2010 through March 2013, with a State grant of $465,000.
