NBEC serves as an institutional change agent as well, by accessing additional resources for the region and making smart investments. Over $12 million has been secured in competitive grants to enhance NBEC’s capacity to serve the employer and jobseeker communities.
This funding, coupled with a dollar-for-dollar match leveraged from public-private partnerships, promotes the use of industry sector strategies for training workers in occupations related to energy efficiency, water efficiency, renewable energy (distributed generation and utility-scale), alternative and renewable transportation technologies and in supporting our large green business sector in the North Bay.
Over 100 participants have received services and training to help them in finding employment in the green economy. The program is now focused on job search assistance, support and retention through March 31, 2013.The special Vet Train Project in Solano County provides 85 military veterans with vocational classroom training in high growth, high demand occupations in the North Bay. One-half of these participants are recently-separated veterans. Occupations targeted for training include: psychiatric technicians; allied health occupations; fiber optics technicians; and computer/internet security technicians. Average placement wages are estimated to be $45,000 per year. The Project operates from April 2010 through March 2013, with a State grant of $465,000.
